Night Guard And Sports Guard
Night Guard And Sports Guard
A night guard and a sports guard are both types of dental appliances, but they serve different purposes:
1 – Night Guard:
Purpose : A night guard, also known as an occlusal guard or bite splint, is worn while sleeping to protect the teeth from grinding (bruxism) or clenching.
Material : Typically made from acrylic, it creates a barrier between the upper and lower teeth to prevent wear and damage caused by grinding movements.
Usage : It helps alleviate jaw pain, headaches, and tooth sensitivity caused by bruxism. It can also prevent damage to dental restorations like crowns or veneers.
2 – Sports Guard:
Purpose : A sports guard, also called a mouthguard or gumshield, is worn during sports or physical activities to protect the teeth, gums, lips, and jaw from impact injuries.
Material : Usually made from flexible plastic, it absorbs and disperses impact forces to reduce the risk of dental injuries such as broken teeth, jaw fractures, or soft tissue damage.
Usage : Commonly used in contact sports like football, hockey, rugby, and martial arts, as well as recreational activities like skateboarding or biking where there’s a risk of facial injury.
